Right-Wing Nation: Addendum
In this more optimistic sequel to my latest article, we will explore ideas to take America back to its forward-thinking roots and out of the grips of the far-right corporatism. It won’t be easy, the powers at play are well-organized, well-funded, and well established. Let’s break it down.
Elections & Funding
Since America’s founding, its citizens have been highly tuned to fear. Fear of others telling them what to do, fear of change, fear of the “other”. This makes fearmongering such a highly effective campaign tool that both parties use it to vanquish candidates to their left. Both in primaries and general elections.
Winning without fear is exceedingly difficult. It requires playing to other emotions such as hope, empathy, but also logic and reason. It also requires mass organization and funding to compete with the big money behemoths that currently control the political process. Efforts have been underway for several election cycles to do this from the likes of Bernie Sanders and his allies. Going as far as electing numerous members of local and federal offices, including the Squad. However, progressives are still too few to affect any major change and those who are in congress continue to give away their leverage.
